A young girl is hoping to brew up a storm when she hosts her first coffee morning - to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Isabelle Welsh was touched by the plight of those battling the disease she decided she wanted to do something to help.

The six-year-old had been inspired by an advert highlighting the work of Macmillan Cancer Care and how hosting a simple coffee morning could help them continue giving vital support to people diagnosed with cancer and their families.

After speaking with her mum Jade, the St Oswald’s Primary School pupil started to save her money to buy ingredients and all that she needed to help make the event a success.

Jade, from Prospect Gardens, West Boldon, said: “Isabelle came to me about two months ago after seeing the advert for the Macmillan coffee morning.

“She started asking questions and then said she would like to hold a coffee morning. At first I thought it might be something she would forget about, but she insisted we ordered the fundraising pack.

The money I will raise at my coffee morning will help make sure no one has to face it alone.

“She has designed all her own invites and saved parts of her pocket money to buy the ingredients and bake cakes.

“I have never come across a young girl with such a massive heart and I am so proud of her.”

Isabelle will be hosting her coffee morning on Sunday, October 1, and has invited her family and friends from school.

In an invite penned by Isabelle, she wrote: “I want to have a coffee morning so all of my family and friends can come and catch up over a nice cup of tea and a slice of something delicious, both of my favourite things and it is for a great cause.

“My mammy told me that one in three people will face cancer and this made me sad. The money I will raise at my coffee morning will help make sure no one has to face it alone.

“I want to help all the boys and girls, mammies, daddies, nanas, grandads, aunties and uncles get better and be happy again, please come and join me.

“How about making a yummy cake or something savoury and bringing it along? The more we have the more money we can raise.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event to raise funds to enable the charity to continue to support those diagnosed with cancer and their families.
