Schoolgirl, 10, is '˜highly commended' in national photography contest

Schoolgirl Kaydie Webb, of Hetton, has been recognised in a national contest after her entries to Houghton Rotary Club’s photography contest, named the Michael Clough Trophy, caught the imagination.

After winning the Rotary’s contest, she also won the district prize for the whole of the North East before being “highly commended” in the national competition.

The theme of this year’s contest was “a different perspective”, with those taking part having to enter three snaps for the consideration of judges.

She called on mum Claire and little sister Thea, three, to model for the snaps.

Kaydie, 10, a Year 5 pupil at Eppleton Academy in Hetton, is now hoping to continue to develop her knowledge of photography.

She already goes to the school’s photography club, from which her fellow members Lacey Raine and Isabel Davison were also recognised after entering the contest as well.

Mum Claire, 32, said : “Kaydie does photography in her own time and at an after school club so she was really keen to enter the competition.

“It’s just something she is very interested in, so she’s always out and about taking photos.

“She got a lot further in the competition than she expected to and it’s given her confidence a big boost.

“It’s something she will probably enter next year as well, when she’s in Year 6.”
