Schoolboy who was hit by a car in Sunderland remains in hospital a week after crash as police seek key witness

An 11-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries in a collision in Sunderland remains in hospital one week on.

The schoolboy was rushed to hospital following the incident – which took place in Silksworth Lane, Sunderland – on Tuesday, June 23 at 6.40pm.

And one week on, Northumbria Police has today (Tuesday, June 30) launched an appeal for a key witness to the collision to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Emergency services were scrambled to Silksworth Lane following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

The injured 11-year-old was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers have spoken to the driver of the vehicle in question, who stopped at the scene, and inquiries have since led them to identify a small red 4x4-type vehicle.

It was travelling in the area at the time of the collision, but left the scene shortly after.

Officers believe the occupant may have witnessed the collision and may have valuable information.

​Inspector Ian Cutty, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “We’re keen to speak to the driver of this vehicle to establish if they witnessed the incident as any information may assist us with our inquiries.

“If you were in the area, or drive a vehicle matching that description, please get in touch with us.”
