A school sports hall has officially reopened following a £100,000 refurbishment.
Belmont Community School now boasts a top- class facility, which has become home to Durham County Badminton group, Durham Swifts and Belmont and Durham University badminton clubs.
Around 75% of the refurbishment cost was met by Badminton England, to create the multi-use sports hall for students and the community on weekends and evenings.
Elaine Morgan, assistant business manager at the school, said: “The new facilities will become a regional hub with the aim of developing and attracting some elite athletes of the future as well as those who just play for leisure and exercise.
“The school hopes to add badminton stars to our already proud history of sporting achievement.”
