WHAT a blast. Sand swirls on the beach at Seaburn yesterday, as Wearside was hit by strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 21mph.
However, it was not all bad news with the city enjoying one of its driest days in weeks.
Today, the wind will drop to 11-18mph. There will be some sunshine, although scattered showers, some heavy are also predicted, along with a chance of hail and thunder, particularly during the afternoon.
Temperatures remain a little below the seasonal average at about 10˚C (50˚F).
Tonight, it will become dry, clear but chilly, with a low of 7˚C (45˚F).
