Sam Allardyce lifts the lid on his emotions after watching Sunderland's stunning victory over Chelsea

In the build-up to the game, boss Sam Allardyce had called for one of his Sunderland players to produce a moment of magic.

Little did he know, the whole team would help produce a stunning comeback against Chelsea to seal three precious points and climb out of the relegation zone.

There was one moment of individual magic, Wahbi Khazri's stunning volley to cancel out Diego Costa's opener.

But Chelsea went in at the break in front thanks to Nemanja Matić's late goal in added-on time. Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe secured the victory in the second half.

And Allardyce - who admitted earlier this week that he uses transcendental meditation to calm his nerves - has lifted the lid on the emotions on the Sunderland bench.

He said: "For a manager, it had all the thrills and spills and the worries and tension that you get at this level of football - especially with how big the game was.

"For us to win after going behind after 14 minutes - which was unusually sloppy defending from us - was fantastic.

"To come back with such a wonderful goal, I'd asked in the run-up can someone come up with something special? Wahbi found it to put us back in the game.

"The hard work of the team shutting down Chelsea, playing the right balls at the right time and the two finishes by Fabio and Jermain.

"Two quick goals in succession got us a fantastic victory.

"It was a tense last few minutes, particularly when we gave that free kick away.

"I didn't know whether to shoot the referee or shoot the defender that brought Diego Costa down!

"We survived it and got the three points," added Allardyce.

Defoe scored the winner in the 70th minute - and Allardyce was delighted to see his 18-goal top scorer get on the scoresheet again.

"18 goals in all competitions, in a team that has been in the bottom three all season is a miraculous return," added Allardyce.

"He hasn't been starved of service though, for a struggling side we have given him some good service, some good opportunities to score.

"We have served him well in that department. For me, it is a pleasing factor that he scores goals consistently up front.

"He can certainly play that role very, very well."
