Rush-hour lorry fire

Have your say

A LORRY caught fire on a busy road during rush hour.

The Howard Long vehicle was travelling along the A1231, in Barmston, Washington, when it suddenly caught alight.

Emergency services were called just before 5pm yesterday.

The road was closed to traffic while they dealt with the blaze.

A diversion was put in place for about an hour while firefighters tackled the blaze.

It is believed that the lorry was carrying animal feed.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said no one was hurt during the incident.
