AN award-winning club is holding an eight-week programme to get new joggers on the right road to running.

The Easington Hares will welcome beginners on a fresh fitness regime starting on Thursday, from 5.15pm to 6pm, costing £1 per session.

Club leader Amy McKenna, who works for County Durham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The sessions are structured for new runners at a gentle pace so everyone can work at their own fitness ability.

“The sessions start with walking and gradually build up to jogging a couple of miles.”

Joint funding from the Tony Blair Sports Foundation and Northumbrian Water will also allow five people to become leaders in running fitness to help sustain running groups in the area.

The group recently won the East Durham Club of the Year title at the Active Easington Sports Awards.

It is based at Healthworks and trains around the Easington Colliery area.
