A COUSIN of a Wearside man who died in a cliff-top tragedy is aiming to put her best foot forward for charity in his memory.
Natalie Jefferson and her aunt Ellen Nicholls will both take part in the Neon Run being held next month.
The pair signed up to the 5k event at Herrington Country Park, Sunderland, as part of a team from Weightwatchers, based in Sunderland.
They hope their efforts, in memory of Boldon footballer Karl Carson, will help raise cash for The Cruse Crew.
The Cruse Crew – made up of families from South Tyneside who have suffered a bereavement – are attempting to raise £30,000 for Cruse Bereavement Care Tyneside, to enable the charity to bring its children and young people’s bereavement service to South Tyneside.
Miss Jefferson, 25, from West Boldon said: “When Karl died there was no support available for his three young children. I looked everywhere.
“So when Laura, the mother of Karl’s children, told me how they were now involved in The Cruse Crew and what the group were trying to do, both myself and Ellen decided to do the Neon Run to raise money for the cause.
“Neither of us have done anything like this before, so it is going to be a challenge to us, but we are looking forward to it.”
Karl’s body was discovered at the bottom of cliffs at Marsden just after 1am on Sunday, July 6, after he had been detained by police after a disturbance in the car park of The Grotto pub.
Police are carrying out an internal investigation into the 26-year-old’s death.
