STORE bosses are aiming to clock up charity funds in a record-breaking year.
The Co-op, in Houghton, has launched the rocking charity fund-raising drive in aid of its new chosen charity the Carers’ Trust, which helps to support young carers.
The theme is Rock Around the Clock, and aims to highlight the work that carers do every day, all year round.
Store manager Andy Dixon said: “We’re delighted that Carers’ Trust is our charity of the year and that we have the chance to make a difference to the lives of young people in our communities who undertake practical and emotional caring responsibilities for a family member or friend.
“On Pancake Day, we are inviting children to decorate pancakes and we will be having tombolas and raffles all year.
“We are also planning a Christmas fund-raising drive.”
The Carers’ Trust launched last year and aims to tackle feelings of isolation and provide breaks, information, advice and support for the 500,000 UK 14 to 25-year-olds facing the challenges of caring.
There are about 32,500 young carers in Sunderland and an estimated seven million unpaid carers across the country.
