Robbers hit victim with wood

A MAN was hit with a lump of wood by robbers who made off with his cash.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 55-year-old was attacked in the Leander Drive area of Boldon Colliery.

The victim was approached by three men just after midnight on Sunday, January 9.

One of the men struck him with a piece of wood, causing minor injuries.

The offenders made off with a bag belonging to the victim containing a quantity of cash.

All the men are described as white, aged between 20 and 25 and were wearing dark clothing.

They left the scene in a dark-coloured car.

Acting Detective Inspector Sharon Chatterton, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: “Thankfully, the victim suffered only minor injuries as a result of this attack and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace these offenders.

“We would ask for the public’s help as they may have information to assist.

“I’d appeal for anyone with information or anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward.”
