Motorists experienced congestion on the roads due to road censuses in Durham today.
They were being carried out in Shincliffe, the A167 near the Honest Lawyer roundabout and Potters Bank.
Dave Wafer, Durham County Council’s strategic traffic manager, said: “We’re carrying out essential traffic surveys during November to help plan future developments and transport improvements.
“This involves surveying a sample of people on our roads about how and why they’re travelling as well as a range of other surveys not at the roadside.”
Police are providing traffic control at the sites, and the council has thanked the public for their patience, Mr Wafer added.
Further surveys will take place throughout the month, but the locations could not be confirmed as this would detriment the work.
