AN inquest into the death of a teenager who died in the River Wear has been postponed.
Jordan Lee Roberts, 17, from Kidsgrove Square, Downhill, died on September 9, after getting into difficulties in the water near Finchale Abbey on the outskirts of Durham.
A closing inquest into his death was due to be held today at the coroner’s office at Crook Civic Centre.
However the coroner has postponed the hearing until a date yet to be decided.
The tragedy unfolded in an afternoon at the river when Jordan went missing, with his body found by police divers the next morning.
His older brother, Callum, 19, was rescued from the river by a friend and taken to the University Hospital of North Durham.
In the aftermath of Jordan’s death, the Downhill community rallied round Jordan’s parents Brenda and George, raising about £1,000 to cover funeral costs.
Friends also released Chinese lanterns into the sky as part of a poignant tribute.
