Revealed! The incredible statistic that shows Sunderland's support is bigger than European giants
Sunderland's average attendance is HIGHER than the majority of Europe's biggest leagues combined.
Despite suffering back-to-back relegation, Black Cats fans - in their numbers - continue to get behind the team with an average of 30,255 filling the Stadium of Light so far.
Only the Bundesliga and Premier League has managed to better the Sunderland faithful's outstanding support.
Ranked in third, the Black Cats sit above popular European leagues such as La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
And when it comes to a League One average, England's third tier has seen an average attendance of 8,521 - that is nearly 22,000 behind those who have checked through the turnstiles at the Stadium of Light so far.
They're ranked ahead of the Championship, too, who hold an average of 19,765.
For Jack Ross' first game in charge against Charlton Athletic, 31,075 were there to witness the start of a new era for the club.
The visit of Scunthorpe United attracted 29,876, while the 1-1 draw with Oxford United recorded the Black Cats' highest attendance so far this term with 32,193.
Fleetwood Town was watched by 29,376 and 28,764 were treated to a 4-1 win over Rochdale as Sunderland returned to winning ways to move up to third in the table.
