FISHERIES experts will be stocking barbel, dace, rudd and tench in The Wear and several other locations in the North East.

It forms part of ongoing plans by the Environment Agency (EA) to develop and restore rivers and lakes.

Some 6,000 barbel and 8,000 dace, reared at the EA’s Nottinghamshire fish farm, will be stocked into the River Wear in Durham, Clow Beck and the River Skerne, in Darlington, to help restore and boost natural populations.

The rivers have suffered from poor water quality and habitat degradation in the past.
