A new city centre restaurant is serving up a musical feast for its diners when it raises its curtain in Sunderland next month.
The Theatre Restaurant is preparing to serve up a slice of the West End to Wearsiders when Sunniside welcomes its latest addition.
It will the first of its kind in the region, with waiters and waitresses entertaining guests.
The concept of combining the two experiences is the brainchild of father-and-daughter team Ray and Andrea Holmes.
Andrea, 42, of Houghton, has worked in theatre production for more than 20 years and runs a theatre group for youngsters at the Royalty Theatre, off Chester Road.
She said: "It's something I have always dreamed of doing. I'm really passionate about bringing arts into Sunderland and giving artists the chance to really practise their trade.
"It was a big investment and so it was important we chose the right area.
"Sunniside was perfect as it is undergoing such a huge transformation at the moment and is really starting to become a lively cultural quarter."
Coun Bob Symonds, chairman of the Sunniside Partnership, added: "The Theatre Restaurant is an exciting addition to Sunniside and will complement the growing artistic and cultural presence as well as add to the high quality dining offer in the area. We wish them every success."
The restaurant opens on September 6. For more information or to book tickets, tel. 0191 565 3580.
