Emergency crews were called to Easington beach following reports of a woman in trouble in the water.
Hartlepool and Seaham Coastguards, the Durham Police helicopter and Hartlepool RNLI, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, were called to the scene at around 1.45pm today when a woman, who was on the beach with her family, got into trouble. It is thought she, and possibly her husband, went into the sea when a dog got into difficulties.
However, the crews were stood down when it was confirmed the woman was safe and out of the water. It is believed she and her husband suffered minor injuries.
The conditions at sea were described as moderate to rough.
