A RECRUITMENT drive is under way to boost the team of community helpers.

Greater Durham Citizens’ Advice Bureau, formed by a merger of branches in Peterlee, Seaham, Durham and Chester-le-Street, as well as Consett, Stanley and Bishop Auckland, is searching for people from all walks of life to become receptionists, assessors, general advice workers, administrators, social policy officers and trustees board members.

The bureau is hoping to take on 200 new volunteers and runs a training scheme for those who sign up.

A spokeswoman said: “We are looking for volunteers to give half a day to two days a week.

“We need ‘people-people’ who are impartial and non-judgemental and can adhere to our strict confidentiality policies, also, very important every role needs a basic understanding of computers, such as searching on the web and emails.”

Anyone interested can call the Peterlee office on 587 2695.
