RECAP: Chris Young answers your Sunderland transfer questions on Ayew, Harper and Defoe

We were inundated with questions on potential incomings, outgoings and fresh names being linked with the club - including free agent Steven Harper.

Morgan Lowrie @MorganLowrie asked how reliable do you think the Ayew link is and can you see him coming? Hopeful but is there any truth in it.

CY: Right, Andre Ayew! Yes, SAFC are interested and yes, they're still trying to get a deal done, despite Swansea insisting that he's not for sale.

I'm told Ayew's camp are open to a move to the SoL.

The idea of a swap deal involving Fabio Borini appears to have come from Swansea.

However, sources close to Borini say they've heard nothing but the rumours and he expects to stay at SAFC this month.

This is one that'll rumble on and I have to say, it'd still be something of a surprise (and a coup) if SAFC can sign Ayew.

Maxhan ‏@MaxHanaghan tweeted: Can you actually see #SAFC bringing in the players they need? I.e better than we have now.

CY: Hopefully Max and I think considering the money being spent by their relegation rivals, they need to.

As I said earlier, the Ayew deal would still be something of a surprise, even if SAFC continue to work on it.

But they're not just looking at Ayew.

Allardyce's tone yesterday seemed pretty confident that he'll get the attacker, defender and back-up GK that he wants too.

Nathan Gunn ‏@nathangunn13 wanted to know what the latest is on incomings. Ayew? Goalkeeper, defender? #SAFC

CY: The back-up goalkeeper situation is expected to be resolved next week.

I've seen a few names flying about - Paul Robinson, Darryl Flahavan and Steve Harper.

I'd heard whispers about Harper a few weeks back, so don't rule that one out, despite the NUFC links.

I'd expect it to be an out-of-contract player regardless.

Defender-wise, they've ended their interest in Lorient centre-half Lamine Kone, but they've also been looking for a right-back throughout the window.

Steven Bell @Steven2717 asked: The point of signing players in January is for them to make an instant positive impact. Why sign a CB who hasn't played regularly?

CY: I think it's a fair point Steven.

Kirchhoff is clearly nowhere near match fit.

I'm told he was even breathing heavily at the end of the friendly with Sheff U earlier this week.

He might need another month before he's fit. However, I am told that he has genuinely looked good in training.

As you say though, SAFC need players to make an immediate impact.

Joe Smith wanted to know whether new signing Dame N'Doye would partner Jermain Defoe up front against Bournemouth?

CY: No, I think Defoe will carry on in that lone role Joe.

I do think there'll be occasions over the next three-and-a-half months when we'll see them together, but I don't expect Allardyce to change formation immediately. After all, Defoe has started scoring goals.

N'Doye is a decent option off the bench though after a full week's training.

Allardyce is hoping he'll make the same immediate impact that he did at Hull.

What did you make of the second-half collapse to Spurs? Was it down to Sam Allardyce or individual errors?

CY: I think Allardyce has to take a lot of the blame, even though the defending for the last three Spurs goals was pretty awful.

I can understand why he introduced fresh legs in the third away game in a week.

But switching the system and bringing on a player who clearly wasn't fit (when Coates was available on the bench) just backfired spectacularly

Callum Mackay @calmackay90 asked: FFP may be limiting us, but after 10 years in the EPL, how do we not have the money to pay the £15million plus fees?

CY: As I said earlier Callum, so much money has been wasted by SAFC on bad recruitment and they're still paying installments on fees for players who aren't even at the club.

For instance, Wickham, Graham, Ji, Altidore and Scocco cost more than £25million.

They got 15 PL goals between them.
