RECAP: Chris Young answers your questions on Sunderland's new signings, January targets and outgoings

How do you sum up the week so far with an FA Cup exit, a win over Swansea City and the signing of Dame N'Doye?

CY: The FA Cup defeat at Arsenal was pretty much as expected, even though SAFC did well for the first 70 minutes. But the three points at Swansea was absolutely huge.

That could turn out to be a big, big result in the relegation battle. Throw in a transfer and another game tomorrow, and it's been a bit manic.

But get a point (or even 3) at Spurs and SAFC really will have some momentum.

George Darling asked: Will N'Doye be used as an alternative to Defoe? Or will there be another formation change?

CY: I think he'll be a different option to Defoe, yes George. I think the 4-2-3-1 seems to have suited SAFC in recent games and Lens beginning to show some form in that number 10 role is a big boost.

There'll be occasions when Allardyce changes his formation - he's clearly proactive on that.

But I think for the moment, he'll predominantly stick with the one central striker.

When is Will Buckley leaving the club on loan, asked Jimmy Coulson?

CY: I was expecting him to go out early this week TBH, Jimmy. Birmingham are clearly keen and he's equally clearly got no future at Sunderland.

Perhaps there's a bit of haggling to be done over what percentage of his wages SAFC will pay.

But he should be one of the next out of the door.

Porterfield asked, will Sunderland stay up this season?

CY: I think they've given themselves a great chance after that win at Swansea.

It's telling how bad the position was that with back-to-back wins, SAFC still aren't out of the bottom three.

Encouragingly for me, these players have held their nerve in the games that matter. That's a good sign.

Craig Jackson asked whether Vito Mannone will be in goal at Tottenham Hotspur after nervy Swansea display?

CY: Mannone got away with one at Swansea, didn't he!

He looked distinctly nervy after that mistake which was spared by the offside flag and I don't think it would be that much of a surprise if Pickford starts tomorrow.

But I suspect Sam will keep faith with Mannone for now.

After all, he did very well against Villa a fortnight ago.

Andy Rooney ‏asked with so little money to spend does Sam Allardyce have something up his sleeve?

CY: I know there's been talk about Kone on loan Andy, but have been hearing from France that he now has doubts about the move.

It's not been a straightforward transfer! I'm not sure

Big Sam has something up his sleeve on incomings. I think further deals are going to depend on who goes.

Surely with the £5million that was set aside for Lamine Kone, we should be expecting further incomings?

CY: Not necessarily. It doesn't seem to work like that at SAFC, and certainly hasn't done in the last 2 summers when moves have fallen through.

And from what I understand, the wage bill is just as big a problem as money for transfer fees.

SAFC are close to their wage limits set by the PL and need to get rid of some.

That's what you get when there's too many players on the books who are not playing, but can't be shifted.

Will Ellis Short back Sam Allardyce with funds?

CY: Again, it's that problem with wages.

I think if SAFC had a slimmed-down squad where everyone was contributing, then there would be more investment.

Don't forget what Advocaat said earlier this season too about the club still paying out big instalments of transfer fees still.

The club needs to get it's ship in order, even though it's clearly frustrating / worrying to see the likes of Norwich and Bournemouth splash the cash.

For me, last summer was when they needed to spend big, not this month.
