A rail company is launching its search for community champions.
Grand Central Rail has unveiled its Heart of the Community Awards to recognise the people who have made contributions – whether it’s raising money for good causes or volunteering for a local initiative.

The company is calling on the people of Sunderland to nominate their community favourites.
Four shortlisted entrants from the North East Grand Central route, which starts in Sunderland, and four from West Riding, will attend an awards ceremony in October.
A winner from each of Grand Central’s routes will be announced at the ceremony. They will receive a prize of a family trip to London, including rail travel, hotel and visit to The London Bridge Experience and Tombs attraction.
They will also get a £500 donation from Grand Central to the charity of their choice.
Sean English, chief operating officer at Grand Central, said: “The communities along our routes lie at the heart of what we do. Last year’s nominations highlighted the hard work of so many people, dedicated to very different causes, within those communities.”
Entrants can email their nominations along with name, age, telephone number and address to firstname.lastname@example.org, using the title header Sunderland Heart of the Community Awards. An entry form can be downloaded at www.grandcentralrail.com/about-us/news-press/heart-of-the-community-awards-2015/. The deadline is September 18. Winners will be selected no later than October 2.
