A WOMAN daubed black paint on the front of a store before returning with a hammer.

Wendy Hunter, 48, was caught on CCTV painting the shutters of the Best One shop in Sea Road, Fulwell, Sunderland, in the early hours of October 20.

The shop owner discovered the damage when he arrived to open up at 8am.

She returned three hours later with a hammer and hurled racist abuse at the frightened man. She pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and a racially aggravated public order offence at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that Hunter had cautions for public order offences from 2004 and 2006.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order, £50 compensation, a £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs, which unemployed Hunter must pay back at £5 a week.
