Youngsters hurled racist abuse at a woman in her 60s in a frightening incident on a Wearside street.
Police are appealing for information after the incident last Tuesday in Hetton-le-Hole.
It happened at about 8.55pm on Front Street.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A group of youths were gathered in the street when racist comments were repeatedly shouted at a 65-year-old woman in the street.
"Officers are carrying out inquiries in to the incident and are keen to identify who was in the group of youths.
