FANS have given their reaction to the news today.
And even a Newcastle supporter described Niall Quinn as “the best chairman in the North East”.
Graham Simpson, 44, a taxi driver from Pennywell, said: “I really like Quinn, he’s done a lot for the club and it’s a shame he won’t be chairman.
“It’s the manager I don’t like. We need someone local in the role.”
Ellen Cuthbertson, 55, a mum of two from Pennywell, said: “I’m a bit disappointed, I’ve always like him. I think Niall Quinn is us.
“They keep going on about international players, but who?”
Sandra Palfrey, 39, a sales assistant from Pennywell said: “I was shocked as he’s been a big asset to the club.
“I think Ellis Short will make a difference and the club needs a shake up, but you can’t fault Niall for what he’s done for the club and the city.”
Phil Douglas, 39, a warehouse worker from Gateshead, said: “He’s been the best chairman in the North East.
“I’m a Newcastle fan and I wish we had him in a way. I think this could be the end for Bruce, a few people have said Quinn would never sack him, but I think Ellis will.”
