Proud '˜town' on its knees

Does it mean that the complaints, the well-documented complaints, from the last several years about Sunderland will continue to be unanswered?

Sunderland can never rise again without changing local government that has brought this once-proud ‘town’ to its knees.

Walk around The Bridges. Look at the depressed and depressing people and then go to Eldon Square where the city-dwellers are animated, smiling and even, dare I say it, better dressed.

That is what a city should feel like. Did you vote? Are you ashamed?
