Private cash would have to fund new Sunderland pool, insists councillor

ANY new pool at Sunderland’s seafront will be built with private, rather than public, cash, says a senior councillor.

Councillor James Blackburn, responsible for attractive and inclusive city, said: “Whilst the council does not have any specific proposals to build a new swimming pool at Seaburn, any proposal for a privately-run pool, or other related leisure uses, as part of a wider private sector development would fit with the masterplan and would be welcomed.”

He added: “The council’s investment in new swimming pool projects across the city at the Aquatic Centre, Silksworth Sports Complex and the Hetton town centre is a record that many other local authorities would envy.”
