A MAN who had cannabis valued at more than £100,000 in his garage has been warned he is facing jail.

Steve Nell pleaded guilty to possessing 27kg of the drug with intent to supply it when he appeared before Durham Crown Court.

Nell, 35, of Front Street, Haswell, also admitted two charges of transferring criminal property by sending £1,400 in cash to Spain.

Jamie Adams, defending, said: “He acted in fear of another who waited outside the Western Union premises in Peterlee while the financial transactions were made.

“He agreed to look after the drugs for somebody else and expected to be paid a one-off sum of £200 for doing so.”

Judge Christopher Prince adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports, and bailed Nell to return to court to be dealt with on January 11 next year.

The judge said “I am prepared to renew your bail, but you should be aware you are at risk of a substantial period of custody.”
