The pupils at Broadway Junior School pulled on their fleece outfits to banish the winter blues.

Margarita Acklam, headteacher at the Springwell Road school, said everyone had a great time taking part in Onesie Day.

She said: “Broadway Junior held its annual ‘Onesie Day’, which is on the first Friday of the spring term and was the brainchild of Caitlyn Burrell in 2013, as an antidote to the post Christmas blues.

“This year, the children decided to donate tins of soup, as fines for not wearing their uniforms, which will now be forwarded to the Salvation Army for use on their various charitable projects across the city.”

Mrs Acklam said they managed to collect a staggering 337 tins and this will now become part of the annual event.
