A pre-inquest review is to be held into the death of former Sunderland marine Phil Harris.

Former Marine Phil Harris, who died in Iraq aged 37 in August 2014.

The dad-of-two died after being shot following a night out in the Iraqi city of Erbil in August 2014.

He is thought to have walked into the wrong villa.

The 37-year-old, who had served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq during his Forces career, left the Marines in 2005 and had been working in the private security industry.

On Friday, February 5, a pre-inquest review will be held into Mr Harris's death by Sunderland coroner Derek Winter.

The funeral of popular Mr Harris, who was from Red House, took place at St Andrew's Church, in Roker, the month after he was killed and was attended by hundreds of people including his former comrades.

He left behind daughter Bobi-Jo and son Leon.
