Network Rail engineers are hoping Metro services will run as normal tomorrow as they work overnight to fix a fault which has hit Metro services between Sunderland and Newcastle.
Nexus services were withdrawn today due to a power problem on South Tyneside.
A Network Rail spokesman said: "There has been a problem with overhead power lines and Nexus has withdrawn services between Pelaw and Brockley Whins.
"It has been going on since this morning. Engineers have found the cause of the problem and will work on it overnight tonight, we are hopeful services we resume tomorrow morning.”
