Pop stars and comedians line up at Durham theatre

Durham's Gala Theatre's has unveiled the stars of its spring season.

Lulu, Chris Ramsey, Rob Delaney, and Mark Steel will all tread the boards alongside the likes of Stig of the Dump, Echo & the Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch, and the Northern Ballet.

Robin Byer from Durham County Council, said: “We always aspire to bring the people of Durham the finest in theatre, comedy, music and film. Our spring programme is no exception”

The Northern Ballet performs the Tortoise & The Hare on Wednesday, February 3.

Singer/song-writer Gretchen Peters is at the Gala on Thursday, February 4, then playwright John Godber’s new comedy Shafted! is on Monday and Tuesday, February 15 and 16.

The Gala Theatre Stage School returns with an evening of song and dance in GTSS Goes To The Movies on Thursday and Friday, February 18 and 19.

Echo & the Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch will perform a stripped-down version of the Merseyside band’s classic tracks, as well as his own solo songs, on Saturday February 20.

March sees US comedian Rob Delaney, the star of hit Channel 4 show Catastrophe, perform on Thursday, March 10.

Singer Lulu stops by the Gala on Tuesday, March 15.

The comedy returns on Friday, March 23, with North East stand-up Chris Ramsey, followed by Have I Got News For You regular Mark Steel on Thursday, March 31.

Easter weekend sees a stage adaptation of Stig Of The Dump on March 26 and 27.

Thursday, March 31, sees Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales from The Gruffalo creators Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
