POLL: Should Roy Hodgson have named Sunderland striker in Euro 2016 squad?

Jermain Defoe won't be going to Euro 2016 despite a superb season leading the Sunderland attack.

But Roy Hodgson has instead opted to call up Newcastle winger Andros Townsend and Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford in a provisional 26-man squad, which will be cut down to 23 by May 31.

In-form Defoe has hit 18 goals this season - including 15 in the Premier League - but the chances of the 33-year-old having a final hurrah with the Three Lions now appear over.

Defoe, whose goals helped see Sunderland to safety, has played 55 times for his country, scoring 19 goals.

Hodgson will then submit his final 23-man squad to UEFA, ahead of the final pre-tournament friendly against Portugal at Wembley on Thursday 2 June.
