A POLITICAL party has launched its manifesto for the North East as it prepares for local elections.

The Liberal Democrats have listed an upgrade of the Metro system and the East Coast Mainline, smart ticketing, a building fund for homes and investment in broadband across the region areas for funding, as part of the document.

The party has said the North East has been “sorely neglected for 13 years in Labour’s hands”. It details what Lib-Dems have done to improve the lives of those living in the region, from tax cuts for those on low and middle incomes and giving councils more powers.
