Hetton Town Council to hold first 'virtual meeting'
Earlier in April 2020, the Government removed requirements for physical attendance at local authority meetings to ensure “effective and transparent” decision making during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Although it will be up to individual councils to decide how voting and debate will take place, they have been told to make sure virtual meetings are accessible to the public.

Hetton Town Council is now embracing the new powers to ensure formal meetings can go ahead and business continues while adhering to social-distancing rules and guidelines.
On Monday April 27, the town council will meet remotely for the first time through online video platform ‘Zoom’.
Chairman of the Management and Policy Committee, Coun Richard Elvin, said: “The town council welcomes the Government move to allow meetings to be held in this way.
