Council says hooray for hump decision

A TOWN council has welcomed plans to remove humps from the seafront promenade within weeks.

Members of Seaham Town Council backed calls from residents for action over traffic calming measures on North Road and North Terrace after the £80,000 scheme was installed a year ago, causing uproar from drivers and businesses.

Now Durham County Council is working on proposals to take out speed cushions on North Road after its own members said they should go.

The town council, which contributed 10 per cent of the total cost of the scheme, made regular representations to the county council, expressing concern about the humps’ severity, frequency, discomfort to drivers and passengers and damage they could cause to vehicles.
