Policing tax freeze

THOUSANDS of council tax payers across County Durham are in line to see the price of policing frozen for the coming year.

The financial arm of Durham Police Authority, which oversees policing in the area on behalf of the public, recommended a council tax freeze at its annual budget meeting on February 22.

Peter Thompson, chairman the authority, said the decision would help ease the financial burden on tax payers this year. He said: “In future years, however, there is no certainty that we will be able to do so.”
