POLICE are putting on extra patrols in Washington after a spate of break-ins.

Scrap metal was taken from a factory on Faraday Close, while raiders broke into a farm barn off Washington Road and stolen a quantity of fuel.

Another farm off the Washington bypass was also targeted when fuel was again stolen.

All the thefts happened between Friday, May 31, and last Saturday, and police have launched Operation Craft to crack down on the thieves.

Washington Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Stewart said: “Officers will be paying extra attention to these and similar types of premises to those targeted.

“I would urge owners of premises such as these to take note, and where possible, implement extra security measures and remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious people or vehicles to police.”

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
