Police respond to four-vehicle crash on A19 between Tyne Tunnel and Jarrow

At around 5.40pm on Tuesday, January 21, Northumbria Police were called to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the A19 between the Tyne Tunnel and the Lindisfarne junction at Jarrow in the northbound direction.

Officers were sent to the scene of the incident where the road had been blocked.

Drivers experienced major delays while work took place to clear the road.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured as a result of the incident.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Four vehicles were involved in this collision but there were no serious injuries.

“It took some time to recover the vehicles.”

The road was reopened at around 7.10pm but delays remained in the area for some time.

Shortly before this incident, police headed to the scene of a three-vehicle crash on the A19 near the A183, Sunderland which caused around three miles of tailbacks.
