Police play down '˜dog theft fears' in Sunderland

Police investigating an incident in Hylton Castle have played down any links to possible dog thefts.

Officers investigating an altercation, in which a Ford Transit van was damaged yesterday, have said they would like to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident..

Police were called to Conway Road at 1.15pm, and it was initially suggested that people were attempting to steal dogs in the area, however, officers have now reiterated that this is not the case.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "There have been no recent reports from the local community of any such incidents".
