Police name taxi driver killed in fatal collision on A19

Police have named the taxi driver killed on the A19 at the weekend.

David Hope, 43, from Wallsend, was killed after stopped to help after coming across a car which had crashed into the central reservation near the Killingworth turn off in North Tyneside.

While out of his car, another vehicle passing the site of the collision collided with him.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and he was given urgent treatment at the roadside, however he sadly died from his injuries. The incident happened at about 1:41am on Saturday morning.

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed pending further enquiries.
