Police hunting bogus caller in Sunderland

At 12.10pm this afternoon police were informed a man had called at an address in Britannia Terrace in Fencehouses.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident, including what was taken, however, initial enquiries suggest the man has called at the address claiming to be carrying out roofing work.

One man was in a van outside the address during the incident and officers are keen to trace the men and van.

The man who went into the house is described as white, tall, slim build with a mohican style haircut, shaved on the sides, he was wearing black work trousers and a plan black jacket.

Police currently do not have a description of the second man.

The van is a plain white flat bed pick up truck with ladders on the back.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Les Goodliff said: "It's important we identify these men so we can establish the circumstances of this incident and would ask anyone who was in Britannia Terrace, or the surrounding area, this morning and saw a white flat bed pick up truck to come forward and speak to us.

"Bogus callers very often prey on people who may be elderly or vulnerable and we really want our communities to work with us and please if they know anyone who could potentially become victim to these people to make sure they know not to let anyone who calls at the door unnannounced into the house."
