Police hunt for man following assault on two people at house

Police are trying to track down a man who is suspected of assaulting two people after breaking into a house.

Northumbria Police say that shortly before 10am yesterday, they received a report of a disturbance at a house in Martindale Park, Houghton.

A man had forced his way into a house before assaulting a man, aged 56, and woman, 45, inside.

He then fled the scene.

The victims were both taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are now hoping to trace the suspect and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At around 9.44am on Tuesday, July 10, police received a report of a disturbance at an address on Martindale Park in Houghton.

"Officers responded and found that a man had forced entry to the property and assaulted a man and woman who were inside of the address.

"The man then fled the address.

"The 56-year-old man and 45-year-old woman who were inside of the address were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“Attempts to locate the offender are now ongoing.

"Anyone with information which could assist the investigation should contact us on 101 quoting reference number 271 10/07/18.”
