Police hunt after petrol bomb hits car in street

Have your say

A STREET was sealed off after a petrol bomb was thrown at a car.

Firefighters cordoned off Ryton Crescent, in Deneside, Seaham, at 10.30pm yesterday after the container holding fuel was hurled at the parked Vauxhall.

No damage was caused to the vehicle and the home-made missile had extinguished itself by the time the emergency services arrived.

An investigation is now underway into the incident.

House-to-house inquiries have been carried out by police, with further checks to be made today.

Inspector Vince Addison, of Seaham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It is stupid and reckless to play with petrol so we are seeking to identify the people responsible and then investigate if they had some sort of criminal intent or this was a prank, in which case they might need to be educated and advised about this danger.

“If anybody knows who it is, we want to know.

“We would appreciate if they could contact us and that will be done in confidence.”
