Police have unveiled a rainbow coloured car just in time for this weekend's Durham Pride festival.

Durham Constabulary will lead the parade on Sunday in the multi-coloured Mini Cooper which is emblazoned with “Police with Pride.”

The parade, which will also be supported by the fire and ambulance service, will begin at Palace Green before making its way down the Market Place, Providence Row and to The Sands.

Cooper Durham Mini has supplied the car to Durham Constabulary for use at the event, which celebrates the diversity of the LGBT+ community.

Anna Harris, retail manager at the branch, said: “We are proud to be supporting the police, whom we have great respect for, at such a brilliant event. Mini is an individual brand which represents a diverse community.”

Sergeant Kay Howarth, of Durham City Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It is a real family event with such a good atmosphere.

“We are really looking forward to supporting it once again.

“Please say hello to us or ask for a selfie.

“We will be on hand throughout the day.”
