Police confirm Sunderland teen's condition is continuing to improve after taking drugs

A teenager who was left fighting for his life in hospital after taking drugs is improving, police have confirmed.

The 14-year-old boy was left in a critical condition on Wednesday after suffering an adverse reaction to a substance he had taken.

Police have confirmed that three people were taken to hospital and two have since been discharged.

Police were called by the ambulance service at 8.55pm on Wednesday after the boy was picked up in Woodhurst Grove, Hastings Hill.

Officers are issuing a warning after it is believed he had taken LSD and new psychoactive substances (NPS) – previously known as “legal highs” – with friends.

Chief Inspector Clare Langley said: “I would ask any young people who are thinking of taking drugs to please think twice.

“You simply do not know what you are taking or the chemicals that are in it – it might not be what you think, and you could end up having a severe adverse reaction to the substance.

“We are now carrying out inquiries to establish where these drugs have come from and will take action against those who have supplied them."
