Two fire crews were called to Prospect Place/Commercial Street in Trimdon Station around 1am today, Sunday, June 7.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed appliances from Peterlee and Wheatley Hill had attended the scene, with crews tackling the blazes. He said police were also at the scene.

“Two hose reels were used and there were no casualties. There was damage to nearby windows and to the door of one property.

“The police attended.”

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said he and his partner had been woken by a loud noise from outside, alerting them to the incident.

He said he had gone outside to find his neighbour’s car was on fire.

“The fire had started off quite small at the front of the car and then something has exploded and that was what work me and my partner up,” he said.

“The fact that he has walked off in the direction of the other cars suggests to me that this was the first one.”

The man said he had CCTV footage from the time of the blaze, which he said he has now passed to police.
