Police appeal following alleged sex assault on woman in Sunderland

Detectives are investigating after young woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in Sunderland city centre.

It happened in the early hours of Sunderland on Wednesday, July 20.

The 21-year-old victim had previously left Basement nightclub, in Green Terrace, with the man pictured in the image and another man.

Detective inspector Denise Clark said: “If you recognise yourself, or know who he is then please let us know.”

Officers are calling on the man pictured, or anyone who knows him, to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 138 200716 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Extra patrols have since been arried out in the city centre, in particular on the nights that bars and clubs are busy to offer reassurance to those enjoying a night out.
