Police appeal after two killed in New Year's Day crash

Police are appealing for information after two people were killed in a New Year's Day crash in Newcastle.

At around 4.10am officers were called to the scene of a smash in Grandstand Road, where a vehicle had collided with a tree.

Two men were pronounced dead at the scene and two other men were taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The road was closed for officers to carry out enquiries but has since reopened.
