Police appeal after schoolgirl approached by stranger in Jarrow

Police are appealing for information after a report a man approached a girl as she walked to school.

The incident happened just before 9am this morning, Wednesday, October 19, in Kings Meadow in Jarrow.

A man in a light blue or grey vehicle approached a ten year old girl. He is described as white, early 30s with a black hoody with the hood up.

The girl ran off from the man.

Officers are carrying out enquiries in order to establish the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

Extra officers are in the area and will remain in the area at the end of the school day to offer reassurance to pupils and parents.

Neighourhood Inspector John Smith said: “I know this incident will be concerning to parents and I would like to let them know that we are doing everything we can to find out what happened.”
