Police appeal after North East sex attack on 15-year-old girl

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted.

Between 5.30pm and 7pm on Thursday evening, a 15-year-old girl was walking towards Manors Metro via Oxford Street in Newcastle when she was approached by an unknown male.

The man grabbed the girl at which point she has pushed him away and fled the area.

Officers searched the area after the girl reported the incident to policelater that evening but they were unable to trace the individual responsible.

Now police are appealing for any witnesses to the assault, or anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area, to get in touch.

The man is described as white, aged in his 30s, around 6ft 2in tall and of medium build. He was clean shaven and had dark eyebrows.

He was wearing a black zipped hooded top, black trousers and black trainers. He spoke with a Geordie accent and was believed to be drunk at the time of the incident.

Extra police have been deployed in the area to carry out enquiries and to reassure any people who may be concerned about the incident. Those patrols will continue this weekend.
